HIPAA Disclosure

Last updated: April 24, 2026

Important Notice: Special Needs Hub is not a HIPAA-covered entity and is not a healthcare provider, health plan, or healthcare clearinghouse. This platform does not provide medical services and is not subject to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). However, we take the sensitivity of health-related information very seriously and have adopted the following practices to protect your privacy.

1. We Are Not a HIPAA-Covered Entity

Special Needs Hub is an informational and peer-support platform for parents and caregivers. We are not a medical provider, insurer, or healthcare business associate as defined under HIPAA (45 CFR §160.103). Therefore, HIPAA's formal requirements do not legally apply to us.

However, this does not mean we treat health information carelessly. We voluntarily adhere to strong privacy practices described below.

2. Sensitive Health Information in Chat

When you use our AI helpline, you may share personal health information about yourself or your child — including diagnoses, medications, behaviors, or therapy history. Please be aware:

  • This information is stored on our secure platform infrastructure (Base44).
  • It is not shared with other users of the platform.
  • It may be processed by an AI model provider to generate responses.
  • As the platform operator, we may access conversation data for safety, legal, or quality purposes.
  • We do not sell or market your health information to third parties.

3. The AI Assistant Is Not a Medical Professional

Our AI helpline is designed for emotional support, general information, and resource guidance only. It cannot diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide clinical care. Nothing communicated through this platform constitutes a doctor-patient relationship or protected health communication under HIPAA.

4. What We Recommend

  • Do not share your child's full name, Social Security Number, insurance ID, or other highly sensitive identifiers in chat.
  • For formal medical records, diagnoses, and treatment plans, always work directly with licensed healthcare providers who are HIPAA-covered.
  • If you are in a mental health crisis, contact a licensed professional or call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. However, no digital system is 100% immune to security risks, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Forum Posts Are Public

Content posted in the Community Forum is visible to all registered users of the platform. Do not post identifiable health information about yourself or your child in the public forum.

7. Questions

If you have questions about how we handle sensitive information, please contact us through the platform. We are committed to addressing your concerns promptly.
